Games and 3D tools use it to store textures the GPU can read directly — block-compressed (S3TC / BC) data, mipmaps and cube maps. Browsers and built-in image viewers usually don't support those compressions, so the file has to be decoded to PNG before you can preview or edit it.

支持哪些 DDS 压缩格式？Which DDS formats are supported?

读取：DXT1（BC1，含 1 位透明）、DXT2/DXT3（BC2）、DXT4/DXT5（BC3）、ATI1/BC4（单通道，按灰度显示）、ATI2/BC5（双通道法线贴图，蓝色按法线重建），以及未压缩的 RGB/RGBA/BGRA、亮度和纯 Alpha 格式，包括 DX10 扩展文件头里的这些格式。BC6H（HDR）和 BC7 暂不支持，会直接提示。只转换最大一级 mipmap；立方体贴图和纹理数组只取第一个面并注明。Reading: DXT1 (BC1, including 1-bit alpha), DXT2/DXT3 (BC2), DXT4/DXT5 (BC3), ATI1/BC4 (single channel, shown as greyscale), ATI2/BC5 (two-channel normal maps, blue rebuilt from the normal), and uncompressed RGB/RGBA/BGRA, luminance and alpha-only formats — including these formats in the DX10 extended header. BC6H (HDR) and BC7 aren't supported yet and you'll be told so. Only the largest mipmap is converted; cube maps and texture arrays use the first face, with a note.

转成 DDS 时选哪种压缩？Which compression should I use when making a DDS?

DXT5（BC3）每个像素 1 字节，带平滑的 8 位透明，适合大多数带透明的贴图；DXT1（BC1）每个像素半字节，体积最小，但透明只有“全透明 / 不透明”两档；未压缩 BGRA 每个像素 4 字节，画质无损但文件大。块压缩是有损的：本工具的编码器为每个 4×4 块挑选颜色端点，速度快，但画质不如 NVIDIA Texture Tools 等专业工具，也不生成 mipmap。DXT5 (BC3) uses 1 byte per pixel with smooth 8-bit alpha and suits most textures with transparency; DXT1 (BC1) uses half a byte per pixel and is the smallest, but alpha is only fully transparent or opaque; uncompressed BGRA uses 4 bytes per pixel — lossless but large. Block compression is lossy: this encoder picks colour endpoints for each 4×4 block quickly, but quality is below dedicated tools such as NVIDIA Texture Tools, and it doesn't generate mipmaps.

DXT 解码后的颜色准确吗？Are the decoded DXT colours accurate?
