为什么买的比房间面积大？Why buy more than the room area?

地毯按固定卷宽出售（12 英尺、4 米等常见规格只是示例，以商家为准），房间宽度不是卷宽整数倍时会有余料；裁边、对花和拼缝一般还要另加约 5–15% 损耗（经验值，示例值）。Carpet comes in fixed roll widths (12 ft or 4 m are just common examples; check your retailer), so rooms that are not a multiple of the width leave offcuts, and trimming, pattern matching and seams usually need about 5–15% extra (a rule of thumb, example value).

裁切长度为什么要取整？Why round the cut length?

地毯通常按整码、整英尺或整米从卷上裁切出售，所以默认把含损耗的裁切长度向上取整到整码（公制为整米），需购买面积和地毯费用都按取整后的长度计算；也可以改成按整英尺（0.1 米）或不取整。衬垫与安装费用按房间面积计算。Carpet is usually cut and sold by the whole yard, foot or metre, so by default the cut length with waste is rounded up to a whole yard (a whole metre in metric), and the area bought and carpet cost use that length. You can switch to whole feet (0.1 m) or no rounding. Pad and installation are priced on the room area.

怎么选铺设方向？Which way should the carpet run?

工具会比较沿长度和沿宽度铺两种方式，选需要卷长最短（最省料）的一种。实际还要考虑光线方向和拼缝位置。The tool compares running the roll along the length and along the width and picks the one using less carpet; also consider light direction and where seams fall.
